Nothing like a 300km ride home to break it in. Got my dream bike yesterday! Upgraded to this from a Schwinn Wayfarer. I’m 9. Yes this new generation of Monster isn't very "Monster" but it sure is fun. 42K subscribers in the Ducati community. Anything and everything about the bikes from Bologna.2 very different bikes. The 1198 with trellis frame and dry clutch is a hoot to ride. However the dry clutch will make your hand go numb in a hour. Not meant for city traffic. The 1199 has better electronics but it's too torquey. Also the first production 1199 has some gremlins. The later year models are better. The least reliable part of the motorcycle is it's rider. Maintenance is key in the lifespan of any bike, yadiyadi blah blah blah. Of course there are always some motorcycles on which the value engineer had his finger to far up the butt of the product-owner. This can result in some premature failure.

I really like Ducati, and due to restrictions, I can’t really get those cheaper, fast 600cc in line 4 Japanese bikes, and I don’t like pure street bikes.I’d say $800-$1,000 every 7,500 miles for service at the dealership. I recently got my 15,000 mile service done and will be going to a local shop with certified Ducati mechanics that’s cheaper. Here a valve service is $2k , mid inspection $1k . miscellaneaous self induced stuff$500 every 10k. Electronics read out $100 .Business, Economics, and Finance. Ducati premier finance is interesting but seems more expensive. Could probably get the monthly payment close to that of the HELOC but would require a 4-5k down payment. If you're going to get any Ducati as a new rider, get the Monster 696. But, consider the fact that you don't weigh a whole lot and, even though the 696 is relatively light at ~355lbs dry, that's 50lbs more than the most common starter bike (Ninja 250r at 300lbs).
